Standard: A community foundation accepts and administers a diversity of gift and fund types to meet the varied philanthropic objectives of donors.
How does this practice

The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has established gift acceptance policies and guidelines that detail the policies and procedures for accepting a wide variety of gifts and fund types.
What method is used for
monitoring and measuring outcome?
The foundation policies and guidelines cover in general: confidentiality; foundation responsibilities; Gift Acceptance Committee; restrictions on gifts; and use of legal counsel. Specific policies and guidelines have been established to cover: the various types of Component Funds and distributions, fees, fundraising, investment management, memorial gifts, permanence, reporting and solicitation campaigns. Policies and guidelines for Non-component Funds address supporting organizations. Policies and guidelines on Outright Gifts cover: bargain sale; cash and cash equivalents; commercial annuities; intellectual property; life insurance; partnership and limited liability interests; private foundation terminations; real estate; real estate with retained life tenancy; retirement plans; royalties; securities – closely held; securities – pre-IPO; securities – publicly traded; stock options; and tangible personal property. Deferred Gifts covered include: bequests; charitable gift annuities; charitable lead trusts; charitable remainder trusts; and pooled income funds. The Appendices include: Model standards of practice for the charitable gift planner; fundraising events policy; memorial gifts policy; solicitation policy; and a Property Information form.
What were the results? Prospective donors and their professional advisors have a clear understanding of the types of gifts the foundation will accept and under what conditions. The foundation’s board and staff have clear guidelines for accepting gifts.
