The Standard

A community foundation informs and educates donors about community issues and grantmaking opportunities.

Underlying Rationale

Supports compliance with Internal Revenue Service regulations. As well, community knowledge is one of the special attributes donors most value in community foundations. The more donors become aware of issues and needs, as well as successful practices, methods, and organizations, the more effective and satisfying their philanthropy.

Potential Outcomes

  1. Donors feel a higher level of satisfaction from the grants they suggest.
  2. Increasing donors’ connection to the community.
  3. Increased incidence of donors jointly funding projects.
  4. The foundation is positioned as “the philanthropic resource” in the community.
  5. Increased current and deferred giving.
  6. Serve donor needs and provide excellent donor/customer service.
  7. Increase attendance at and participation in foundation events.
  8. Involve donors on committees to both share and build their knowledge.
  9. Obtain referrals to new donors.
