The Standard

A community foundation is founded and operated for public benefit and has a well-defined, articulate mission.

Underlying Rationale

As an exempt charitable organization, the community foundation is required to operate for the benefit of the general public rather than private individuals or shareholders. A well- articulated mission statement specifically defines and communicates to the public the purposes of serving the community.

Potential Outcomes

The public is able to distinguish the community foundation from other philanthropic organizations.

The community foundation has focus and direction.
