Key Design Elements Check List

  1. There is a process for retaining all information illuminating the donor’s intent.
  2. There is a procedure for updating fund purposes as changing conditions require.
  3. There is a formal board approval process for changing fund purposes.
  4. Options for fulfilling donor intent are evaluated both on an effectiveness and cost/benefit basis.

    Design Elements Relevant To Most Practices:

    1. Clear and measurable outcomes.
    2. A monitoring and evaluation component that tracks and measures outcome achievement.
    3. Outcomes that preserve and/or improve desirable conditions.
    4. The cost of following the practice is in alignment with the result.
    5. The practice "fits" with the current and anticipated circumstances of the community foundation, such as size, growth rate, age, type of funds, and service area.
    6. Ancillary or bonus outcomes derived from the practice help meet or exceed other standards or otherwise advance the foundation's goals.
