What is the Stewardship Principles for Family Foundations Database?

The Database is a collection of best practice option interviews, sample documents and tools from your peers in family philanthropy that correspond to the Stewardship Principles for Family Foundations. The Stewardship Principles were introduced in January 2005 at the Council's Family Foundation Conference.

What information is in the Database?

The information in the database is divided into two main groups:

Examples are interviews conducted with family foundations which have submitted best "practice options" to the Database. Their story, which includes challenges and lessons learned, is posted under the appropriate Practice Option.

Tools & Samples are sample documents, tools or other resources that family foundations have developed and have used to achieve a particular best practice option.

What is the best way to search the Database?

There are several entry points into the Database:

View All Principles provides a top-tier list of the Stewardship Principles for Family Foundations. Clicking on an individual Principle lets you search through the Database for items organized under that specific Principle.

View All Practice Options presents you with a list of the Practice Options as they are organized under each Principle. Clicking on a Practice Option opens to show you Examples associated with the Practice Option.

Clicking on View all Tools and Samples opens a window in which the submitted tools and sample documents are listed under their respective Practice Options.

At any time, you may click on the Home link at the top of the page to return to the main Database homepage.

Submitting a Practice Option and a Sample Document or Tool your foundation uses is really very simple. You may either:
